Every person has a distinctive protein on their red blood cells.

The proteins are broken down into four types: A, B, AB and O. In addition some individuals another protein on the blood cell that is separate and distinct from the four characteristic listed above.

This additional protein is referred to as Rh bype.

So, since each of the four major proteins A, B, AB and O have this additional marker, there are now eight possible type of bloods. Each of the four main types now can have either Rh – or Rh +.

No real blood or characterizing sera are used in this kit. The kit does not contain any pathogenic bacteria, viruses or foreign proteins.

The tests however give the total range of blood types that students can simulate in testing.
