Not a great dissection

The rats arrived as expected, in a pail, and were nice-sized specimens. The problem is that they were so full of fluid that even after letting them drain, the dissections trays were overflowing with fluid once the rats were cut open. The intestines appeared to have ruptured on most of the specimens and they were full of brown particulate chunks that obstructed the clear view of many of the organs. The smell was overwhelming because of the amount of fluid, and many students had to step out of the lab. I would try ordering the individually packaged specimens next time instead of the pail of rats.
